Getting Started With BMX Racing in Delaware

Welcome to the World of BMX Racing

BMX racing is fast, fun, and surprisingly welcoming — whether you're a toddler on a balance bike or a grown adult rediscovering the joy of riding. It’s a sport where families race together, cheer each other on, and build memories that last.

I didn’t even know Delaware had a BMX track until 2024, when my brother started racing at First State BMX. By the next year, more of our family joined in, and we were hooked instantly. In 2026, we created Generations Racing — not as a recruiting team, but as a family project built around something we love. And now, we’re happy to help new riders find their way into the sport.

Quick note: Everything here comes straight from the First State BMX website, but things can change — so it’s always a good idea to double‑check details at firststatebmx.com.

Try BMX for Free

If you’re curious about BMX but not sure where to start, First State BMX makes it incredibly easy. Every new rider gets a FREE FIRST DAY — no pressure, no commitment, just show up and give it a try.

What It’s Like at the Track

The vibe at First State BMX is relaxed and family‑friendly. You’ll see tiny balance‑bike riders, teenagers, parents, and even riders in their 50s and 60s all sharing the same track.

  • Riders range from 18 months to 60+ years old
  • Spectators are always free
  • You can ride, watch, or simply explore the track

Loaner Bikes & Gear

Don’t have a bike or helmet yet? No problem. First State BMX has loaner bikes and helmets available for new riders, so you can try the sport before buying anything.

About the Rental Period

Once you use your free day and decide to purchase a full USA BMX membership, you get a 14‑day free rental period. During that time, you can borrow:

  • Loaner bikes
  • Loaner helmets

This gives you time to:

  • Figure out what size bike feels right
  • Learn what gear you prefer
  • Research what you might want to buy

Availability can vary, so rentals aren’t guaranteed every day.

What You Need to Ride

You don’t need fancy gear to get started. Just bring:

  • Long‑sleeve shirt
  • Long pants
  • Full‑face helmet
  • Closed‑toe shoes

If you want to use your own bike, just make sure:

  • Reflectors are removed
  • Chain guard is removed
  • Kickstand is removed
  • Pegs are removed
  • The bike is in safe working condition
